Creativity and Innovation

Posted on 21 October 2008

What we are talking about here…
Creativity is a human activity involved in generating new ideas.
Innovation is the process of taking an idea and turning it into reality.
Why it is important…
The only way an organisation or group or individual stays “one step ahead” is by not only working harder but often by working “smarter” – doing the same thing as everybody else more efficiently, effectively or creatively.
What you need to know…
Creative thinking is something all people do – not just people who are “creative”.
We can all be “creative” – we just need to acknowledge the fact!
Creative thinking is about thinking “outside of the box – thinking the same thing as everyone else, but thinking something different!
Innovation is about taking new ideas and making them happen.
The next steps…
Believe you are a “creative thinker” – because you are!
Believe you can have good ideas and lot’s of them.
Believe you can turn those ideas into action.
Be a “Yes and…” person not a “Yes but…” person.
Refuse to believe any negativity in you that say’s “I can’t…” – if you think it – you can probably do it – but make sure it is the right thing for you to be doing first!
